Nowitzki leaves game with ankle injury

Denver, CO (Basketball News) - Dallas Mavericks All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki was forced to leave Sunday’s game against Denver with an ankle injury.

Nowitzki sprained his left ankle when he stepped on the foot of Denver forward Nene late in the second quarter of the 110-82 loss to the Nuggets at the Pepsi Center. Nowitzki finished with 11 points in 18 minutes of action.

The Mavericks’ leading scorer and rebounder is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Monday. Nowitzki entered Sunday’s game averaging 27.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest.
