Nuggets’ Lenard to have surgery; could miss rest of season 11.3.2004

The injury occurred in the third quarter of the Nuggets’ season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Lakers when Lenard, who was running back to play defense, slipped on the floor. He finished the game with 13 points.
A timeline for Lenard’s return will be set after he has surgery on Monday. He could miss the rest of the season.
The loss is a major one for the Nuggets, who will be losing the team’s only legitimate outside shooter. Lenard is considered a streaky shooter at times, but is capable of scoring in bunches as he averaged 14.2 points per game last season.
He also provided solid range from three-point land, shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc, while capturing the 3-point shooting contest at the NBA All- Star Game in 2004.
The Nuggets are expected to turn to DeMarr Johnson, who was inked by the team two weeks before the season, to start in Denver’s home opener against Minnesota on Thursday night.
