San Antonio Spurs Team Report - April 6

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs continue their push towards a Southwest Division title, as they welcome the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday to the SBC Center.

The Spurs, who are 54-19, are 4 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Dallas Mavericks in the Southwest Division. San Antonio is No. 2 overall in the Western Conference, 2 1/2 games behind the top-seeded Phoenix Suns.

It will be the third meeting of the season between San Antonio and the Clippers. The Spurs crushed the Clippers, 98-79, on December 31st at the Staples Center and beat them 80-79 on January 19th at the SBC Center. The teams will play once more in the 2004-05 campaign, as the Clippers will host San Antonio on April 9th.

The Spurs have won five straight and seven of the last eight meetings in this series. The Clippers have lost five straight and 14 of their last 15 at San Antonio.

San Antonio enters Wednesday’s game off a solid win. On Saturday, Brent Barry’s layup with six seconds left lifted the Spurs to a 95-94 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at the SBC Center. Barry ended with a team-high 20 points in the win.

Tony Parker finished with 17 points, six rebounds and nine assists in Saturday’s win for the Spurs, who swept the four-game season series from Los Angeles for the second time in three years. San Antonio has won five straight meetings and nine of its last 12 games with the Lakers.

The Spurs, who are 12-5 in Wednesday games this season, are an NBA-best 35-3 at home. San Antonio has won seven in a row at the SBC Center.

Barry has scored in double-digits in four of his last six games. He is averaging 14.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in that span.

Parker has played 30 or more minutes in 19 straight games and has scored in double-digits in 30 straight contests. He is averaging 16.8 points and 6.2 assists in his last 10 outings.

San Antonio will play just three of its final nine games in the regular season in front of its home crowd. Besides the Clippers, the Spurs will also host Portland and Memphis, while they will visit Dallas, the Clippers, Golden State, Utah, the Grizzlies and Minnesota.
