Shawn Marion Wants Extension from Miami Heat

04.16.2008 - Updated on 04.16.2008

Speaking about his future for the first time, Marion confirmed our earlier report that he ’’definitely’’ would like a contract extension and will have agent Dan Fegan ask the Heat for one this summer — even though Miami’s seemingly in no position to do that because it wants big salary-cap space in 2009. With few teams having cap space, Marion is not expected to opt out of the last year of his deal worth $17.4 million — though he won’t say for sure.

The Heat will tell Marion it values him but that he and Fegan must be reasonable with contract demands. That likely would mean a sizable pay cut, perhaps to the $10 million-a year-range, beginning in 2009-10. [Miami Herald]

Honestly, I love shawn marion, and I’m glad he wants to stay with the heat, but what I don’t understand is why these nba players want so much money but then are unhappy when we lose a lot. What’s the difference between makin 15 mill a year and makin 10 mill a year. If they take apay cut, their team can get more good players to put around them, if marion cud get a 4-year $45 mill contract, that wud be great for the Heat. Also, ricky davis can resign for lower money as well this offseason to make more salary room. Honestly, it wud be the best idea to do that. .
