Timberwolves’ Olowokandi out after knee surgery

12.12.2003

Washington, DC (Basketball News) - Minnesota Timberwolves center Michael Olowokandi had surgery on his right knee Friday and is expected to miss six- to-eight weeks.

Olowokandi was not placed on the injured list, but Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders said the team would attempt to sign a free agent to replace him.

The 7-foot-1 center, who signed with the Timberwolves as a free agent in the offseason after spending five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, has already missed three games after the original diagnosis was tendinitis.

The first overall pick in 1998, Olowokandi was averaging 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15 games this season.
