Warriors can’t catch a break

01.16.2006

(Basketball News) - Golden State is not playing well and is searching for a light at the end of the tunnel. The slumping Warriors attempt to put the brakes on a five-game losing streak when they host the Seattle SuperSonics on Monday at The Arena in Oakland.

It is the second meeting of the season between the Warriors and SuperSonics. On December 13th, Baron Davis drilled a three-pointer with 4/10ths of a second remaining in overtime, as Golden State edged Seattle, 110-107, in a thrilling contest at KeyArena. The Warriors have won three in a row and five of the last seven contests in this series. Seattle has lost four of its last five at Golden State.

Golden State plays the middle contest of a three-game homestand against Seattle. On Saturday, Kobe Bryant poured in 38 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists, as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Warriors, 110-104, at The Arena.

Davis tallied a triple-double with 24 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds and Jason Richardson scored a team-high 37 points in the loss to the Lakers for the Warriors. Mike Dunleavy contributed 13 points and Troy Murphy netted 12 for Golden State, which has lost 10 of its last 13 games overall.

Golden State is 9-10 at home this season. They have dropped three in a row at The Arena. The Warriors are scheduled to host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday before they travel to Los Angeles to play the Clippers in the first of a home-and-home set on Sunday at the Staples Center.

The Warriors have surrendered 100 or more points in 16 of their last 20 contests. They are 7-13 in that span.

Davis, who leads the Warriors in assists (9.3 apg), has scored more than 20 points in three straight games. He is averaging 19.3 points and 8.5 assists in his last 10 outings.

Golden State is just 17-19 and trails the division-leading Phoenix Suns by seven games in the Pacific. They are only two games ahead of the last place Sacramento Kings.
