Claxton had a blood clot removed from his injured right thigh and is expected to play Friday versus the New Orleans Hornets. He has missed the last five games — all losses — and is day-to-day for Wednesday’s game against Sacramento.
The 26-year-old Hofstra product couldn’t bend his leg before having the procedure performed. A small incision was made and the blood clot was suctioned out.
Claxton, who was injured during a contest versus Denver on January 17, is averaging 12.8 points and 5.9 assists in 37 games this season. He has also spent time in Philadelphia and San Antonio.
In other team news, starting forward Troy Murphy missed Saturday’s game against the LA Clippers because of a hairline fracture in his left thumb and is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Kings.
Murphy said he will not need surgery, but could be out for as long as three weeks. Murphy is also expected to see a hand specialist to determine what type of protective cover he should wear on his thumb.
The 24-year-old Notre Dame product is averaging 16.2 points and 11.2 rebounds in 42 games this season. He was Golden State’s first-round pick (14th overall) in the 2001 NBA Draft.
