Warriors start long homestand vs. Hornets

11.9.2006

(Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors begin a season-long seven-game homestand, as they welcome the undefeated New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets to ORACLE Arena.

This is the finale of a home-and-home set. On Tuesday, Chris Paul poured in 22 points and dished out 11 assists to lift the Hornets to a 97-93 victory over Golden State at the Ford Center.

Peja Stojakovic scored 18 points and David West contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Hornets, who were celebrating their second "home opener" of the season. Tuesday’s game was the Hornets first game in Oklahoma City, where they will play all but six of their home games. The result also gave the Hornets their first 4-0 start in franchise history.

Former Hornet Baron Davis scored 22 points in the loss for Golden State, while Monta Ellis added 17 off the bench for the Warriors. Andris Biedrins finished with 10 points, five rebounds and six blocks against the Hornets.

The Warriors are 1-1 as the host this season. They will also host Detroit, Toronto, Sacramento, Seattle, Phoenix and Denver on the current homestand.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City starts a three-game road trip this evening. The Hornets are scheduled to visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday at the Rose Garden and the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at the Staples Center.

The Hornets have lost four of their last six at Golden State.
