(Basketball News) - Washington put an end to a two-game losing streak Friday night, posting a 120-116 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center. Gilbert Arenas poured in 37 points and Larry Hughes added 33 in the winning effort.
Antawn Jamison added 22 points for the Wizards, who shot a torrid 51 percent from the field. Washington picked up its first road win over the Lakers in 12 years and just its second victory over a winning team this season. The Wizards last beat the Lakers at the Forum in February 1992.
Washington lost the rebounding war, 46-38, but only committed six turnovers as compared to 19 for the Lakers.
The Wizards, who are in the midst of a tough five-game road trip, have posted a 6-4 record in foreign buildings this season. Washington will continue its road trip tonight in Phoenix against the NBA-leading Suns.
Phoenix has won two of the last three meetings, including two straight at home. In fact, the home team has won the last four meetings in this series. All-time, Washington is 52-46 versus the Suns.
