Wizards welcome Warriors to MCI Center

02.8.2006

(Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards try to go above the .500 mark this evening when they continue their five-game homestand against the Golden State Warriors at the MCI Center.

Washington got back to the break-even mark on Monday, as Antawn Jamison recorded 21 points, 11 rebounds and six steals to power the Wizards past the Orlando Magic, 94-82.

Gilbert Arenas scored 23 points, despite shooting just 6-of-24 from the field. Antonio Daniels added a spark from the bench with 16 points and six rebounds, as Washington won for the fourth time in five games.

A win tonight would put the Wizards back over .500 for the first time since it was 5-4 back on November 19.

Washington, who will close its stand with visits from Cleveland and Philadelphia, has won four straight and eight of its last 10 at home and is 15-9 in its arena this season.

Golden State, meanwhile, comes in on a winning note after Jason Richardson scored 28 points on 10-of-20 shooting and also grabbed seven rebounds as the Warriors held off the Denver Nuggets, 122-114, on Monday at The Arena.

Baron Davis had 23 points and 12 assists and Troy Murphy netted 20 and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Warriors, who have won two in a row and three of their last five contests.

Mike Dunleavy contributed 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench and 12 of Derek Fisher’s 14 points came in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors, who will be starting a three-game road trip tonight, are 8-12 away from home this season.

Golden State split its two matchups with the Wizards last season and has won two of the last three and four of the last six meetings. The Warriors have also won three of their last four in Washington.
