Nets beat reeling Raptors in OT

Jason Kidd amassed a triple-double with 14 points, 15 assists and 13 rebounds for the Nets, who put an end to a three-game losing streak.

"When we defend we can play with anybody," said Kidd after the game. "When we don’t, we can lose to anybody."

Morris Peterson finished with 25 points while Chris Bosh had 23 along with 11 rebounds in the loss, the Raptors’ sixth in a row. Mike James contributed 22 points and seven assists in defeat.

"We gave up too many second chance shots," said James. "Those offensive rebounds they got put us in a tough spot."

New Jersey trailed 85-75 with under 5 1/2 minutes in regulation but outscored the Raptors 12-1 down the stretch, with a three-point play from Carter with 57 seconds to go, putting the Nets up 87-86.

James then buried a three-pointer on the other end to put Toronto up by two before Carter tied the game at 89-89 with a fadeaway jumper with 28 seconds left.

Jefferson snapped a 91-91 tie with a second-chance layup early in the extra period, then stole the ball and threw down a dunk seconds later to extend the margin to four.

New Jersey didn’t relinquish the lead the rest of the way, with Kidd sealing the win by hitting four foul shots that put the hosts up 105-98 with 11 seconds left.

"We were 1-15 at one time and didn’t quit," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said after the loss. "We have a resilient group of guys. The encouraging thing is we have a lot of young players learning and growing."

The Nets held a slim 43-39 edge at halftime, but Toronto took control with a strong third period.

Down 47-43 two minutes into the second half, the Raptors put together a 10-0 run to move in front. Bosh had six points during the burst, including a short jumper with 7:23 left in the period which put Toronto up 53-47.

The Raptors took a 69-64 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Nets won for just the fifth time in 30 games this season when trailing after four quarters...Toronto fell to 2-24 in games against teams with winning records...Kidd’s triple double was the 72nd of his career...Nenad Krstic ended with 18 points and nine boards for New Jersey, which outrebounded Toronto 49-38 for the game.
