06.30.2007

West Paterson, NJ (Basketball News) - New Jersey forward Vince Carter has reportedly opted out of his contract and is scheduled to become a free agent Sunday, but will most likely return to the Nets.

According to a report in The Record newspaper in New Jersey, Carter opted out of a deal that would have paid him $16.3 million next season, but the 30-year- old swingman is expected to remain with the organization.

The paper also reported that the Nets will likely offer Carter a guaranteed four-year contract with a partial guarantee for a fifth year. The total guaranteed money is $65 million.

Carter led the Nets in scoring last season, averaging 25.2 points per game. He also averaged six rebounds and 4.8 assists per contest. In 12 playoff games, Carter netted 22.3 points per game.
