|
(Basketball News) - On the day the New Jersey Nets’ moved one step closer to moving to Brooklyn, the team went out and posted its worst performance of the season, an 85-64 setback to the Miami Heat.
Kenyon Martin had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Nets, who have dropped a season-high five straight contests. Richard Jefferson contributed 14 points and hauled in nine boards for New Jersey, which is in the midst of its longest losing streak since April 2001.
Earlier in the day, the owners of the Nets approved Bruce Ratner’s bid to purchase the team and move the franchise to Brooklyn. Yankee/Nets, the owners of the NBA team, voted in a teleconference to sign off on the deal reached earlier this week. The rest of the NBA owners must approve the agreement as well.
Brooklyn has not had a major professional sports team since the Dodgers left for the West Coast in 1957.
The Nets return to action on Sunday against the Boston Celtics.
