New Orleans Hornets Team Report - December 22

(Basketball News) - The New Orleans Hornets will try to nail down just their third win of the season, as they visit the Los Angeles Lakers this evening at the Staples Center.

The Hornets dropped their NBA-worst record to 2-22 with a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday. Rick Brunson recorded 11 of his 18 points in overtime to lift the Clippers to a 100-91 victory at the Staples Center.

David Wesley registered 22 points for the Hornets, including 16 in the third- quarter to spark the improbable rally. Lee Nailon finished with 21 points and Chris Andersen pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds for New Orleans, which has lost three in a row and 14 of its last 15.

P.J. Brown racked up 14 points and 12 rebounds and sent the game into extra minutes with a basket with four seconds left in regulation.

The Hornets could receive a lift if guard Baron Davis is able to play in tonight’s game. Davis was activated from the disabled list in time for Tuesday’s game, but did not dress for the setback.

Davis, who was shelved on November 17, has missed the last 19 games with an inflamed disc in his lower back. He played in the first five games of the 2004-05 season, averaging 24.6 points and eight assists.

He is listed as questionable for tonight’s game.

Tonight’s game is the third meeting of the season between the Lakers and Hornets. The Lakers won both contests, picking up one victory at home and one on the road. LA has won three straight and four of the last five meetings. The Hornets have also dropped six of their last seven meetings with the Lakers in the City of Angels.
