New York Knicks Team Report - February 26

(Basketball News) - Stephon Marbury’s return to Phoenix was spoiled on Wednesday, as the New York Knicks saw their losing streak hit four games with a 113-95 loss to the Suns at America West Arena.

Marbury was held to 15 points against his former team, but dished out a game- high 13 assists. Kurt Thomas had a game-high 25 points for the Knicks, who have dropped the first two legs of their four-game West Coast road trip and fell for the sixth time in their last seven games overall.

DerMarr Johnson pitched in with 16 points, besting his previous season high by 14 points, while Anfernee Hardaway recorded 10 points in his first visit back to Phoenix.

Marbury, who got a nice ovation during introductions, was traded by the Suns, along with Hardaway and Cezary Trebanski for Antonio McDyess, Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, Maciej Lampe, the rights to Milos Vujanic and two first-round draft picks back on January 5.

To make matters worse for New York, newly-acquired Tim Thomas left the game with a hyperextended right elbow just 3 1/2 minutes into the contest and did not return. His status for Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers is not known.

The Knicks continued to play without guard Allan Houston, who has been sidelined since January 30 with a sore knee. Houston, who had originally hoped to be back right after the All-Star break, could return at some point during the trip.

New York, which has just two wins in 10 games played on Wednesday this season, fell for the sixth time in its last 13 games on the road and slipped to 10-18 away from home this season.

The Knicks return to action on Friday against the Clippers at the Staples Center. New York picked up a victory in the first meeting of the year between the two teams, but have dropped three of five and five of the last seven matchups. The Knicks have also dropped four in a row on the Clippers’ court after winning five in a row there.
