Nowitzki, Mavericks host Warriors

12.14.2004

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors start a four-game road trip tonight, as they visit All-Star Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

This is the second meeting of the season between the two clubs. On November 8th, Dallas knocked off the Warriors, 101-98, in overtime in front of its home crowd. Overall, the Mavericks have dominated Golden State and have won 21 of the last 22 contests in this series.

Golden State has lost 12 straight and 13 of its last 18 at Dallas. The last time the Warriors won on the road against the Mavericks was on April 10, 1999.

On Sunday, Clifford Robinson scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Warriors to a 99-87 win over the Charlotte Bobcats at The Arena. Jason Richardson tallied a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight boards, helping the Warriors end a two-game slide and win for the third time in five games.

Prior to Sunday’s game the Warriors placed guard Derek Fisher on the injured list with a sprained right knee.

Robinson has scored in double-digits in three straight games. He is averaging 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in that span.

The Warriors, who will also visit the New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs on the road swing, are a dismal 1-7 on the road this season.

Dallas enters tonight’s game having won two in a row. On Monday, Michael Finley scored a season-high 27 points and hit a game-winning jumper with 3.2 seconds left as the Mavericks downed the Chicago Bulls, 94-93, at the United Center.

Nowitzki finished with 21 points and nine rebounds but struggled from the field for the Mavericks, who recorded their 13th consecutive triumph over the Bulls. Josh Howard compiled 16 points and 10 rebounds in Dallas’ fourth straight win on the road and second in a row overall.

Dallas guard Jerry Stackhouse missed the game against Chicago after hurting his right hand in a Sunday practice. He is probable for tonight’s contest.

The Mavericks are 7-5 as the host this season.
