Nuggets’ Camby agrees to new deal

07.2.2004

Denver, CO (Basketball News) - Forward Marcus Camby and the Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement on a new contract.

Camby averaged 8.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in a career-high 72 games for Denver last season. He was acquired by the Nuggets on June 26, 2002 in a trade with New York that sent Antonio McDyess to the Knicks.

Citing a league source, the Denver Post is reporting that the contract runs five or six years and if Camby meets all incentives it could be worth $60 million to $65 million.

"I’m extremely happy that things are working out with Denver," Camby told the Post.

The former Massachusetts star was selected by the Toronto Raptors in the first round (second pick overall) of the 1996 NBA Draft. He was traded by the Raptors to the Knicks in a deal for Charles Oakley on June 25, 1998.

In 424 NBA games, Camby has averaged 10.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.27 blocks.

Camby opted out of his contract in June and became a free agent, however, he made it clear he wanted to stay in Denver.
