Nuggets closing in on Northwest crown

04.4.2006

(Basketball News) - The Denver Nuggets (41-33) own a 5 1/2 game lead over the second place Utah Jazz in the Northwest Division. They are the third seed in the Western Conference playoff race.

The Nuggets are scheduled to play four of their final eight games at the Pepsi Center. They will host the Lakers, Golden State, Sacramento and Houston.

Denver’s final four road contests are against the Clippers, Portland, Utah and Seattle.

On Tuesday, the Nuggets and Clippers try to get back on the winning track when they meet at the Staples Center. It is the fourth and final meeting of the season between the squads. The teams split a pair of games at the Pepsi Center, while the Clippers defeated the Nuggets, 112-79, on January 28th at the Staples Center.

Denver has lost eight of its last 10 at the Clippers, who have won the last two contests in this series.

The Nuggets play the finale of a brief two-game road trip against the Clippers. On Sunday, Dirk Nowitzki poured in 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lift the Dallas Mavericks to a 103-79 victory over Denver at American Airlines Center.

Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 25 points in the loss to Dallas, while Andre Miller and Ruben Patterson both ended with 14 points for Denver, which has dropped three of its last four games overall.

Denver is 17-20 as the visitor this season. The Nuggets have lost two straight on the road.

The Nuggets and Jazz will meet on April 12th at the Delta Center. Denver is 1-2 against Utah this season.
