Nuggets’ Hodge hospitalized after shooting

04.8.2006

Denver, CO (Basketball News) - Denver Nuggets rookie guard Julius Hodge is hospitalized in fair condition following a shooting early Saturday morning.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said Hodge was driving along Interstate 76 at about 2:00 a.m. when someone inside another vehicle started shooting. Hodge was hit in his lower extremities and taken to a local hospital by another motorist. A motive has yet to be determined.

"We have learned that Julius Hodge was the victim of a shooting this morning," said Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe in a statement. "There is no apparent motive for this shooting and detectives from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.

"First and foremost, our primary concern is Julius’ health. The doctors have informed us that he is in fair condition and is expected to make a full recovery. That is all the information we have at this time. We ask that you respect his privacy."

Hodge was the 20th overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft out of North Carolina State. He has spent time in the NBA’s Developmental League and in 14 games with the Nuggets has averaged 0.9 points and 0.5 rebounds.
