Pacers welcome Heat to Conseco Fieldhouse

03.23.2007

(Basketball News) - The Miami Heat close out a short two-game road trip this evening when they visit the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Miami has won 10 of its last 11 games and recorded a 91-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday at Philips Arena. Jason Williams scored 21 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Heat, who almost blew a double-digit fourth-quarter lead.

Eddie Jones added 14 points and Shaquille O’Neal had 12 points, six assists and three rebounds for Miami, which is a half-game behind Washington for the top spot in the Southeast Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Miami is 14-19 away from South Beach this season and could be without center Alonzo Mourning (knee) against the Pacers. Mourning is listed as questionable for Friday’s game.

Indiana is fading fast from the playoff picture and is tied with Orlando for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East. The Pacers will open a three- game homestand tonight and have dropped two straight and 13 of their last 14 games, including Wednesday’s 90-72 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center.

Ike Diogu scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Indiana, while Mike Dunleavy had 11 points for the Pacers, who lost their ninth in a row on the road. Now Indiana is back at home where it is 19-14 in 2006-07.

The Pacers will also host Chicago and Cleveland on the three-game stand. In injury news for Indiana, center David Harrison (shoulder) is questionable for Friday’s game against the defending NBA champions.

Friday’s showdown between Miami and Indiana is the third of four meetings this season. The season series is split at a game apiece, but Indiana has won 15 of 18 and 16 of the last 22 meetings. Both teams will meet again on April 13 at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Miami has lost nine straight and 10 of its last 11 at Conseco Fieldhouse.
