(Basketball News) - Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to an easy 94-81 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday at the Rose Garden.
Derek Anderson had 16 points and Zach Randolph contributed 14 points and 14 boards for the Trail Blazers, who are 2-0 this season after opening their season with a 78-75 win in Golden State.
Theo Ratliff tied a career high with nine blocks and equaled the team mark set by Bill Walton and Mychal Thompson.
In the third quarter, Randolph’s basket early in the frame extended the cushion to 65-52 and the lead grew to 15 later in the stanza. The Clippers did cut the deficit to eight points in the waning minutes, but Portland closed out the quarter by scoring eight of the final 10 points and led 79-65 after three. Los Angeles never threatened in the fourth quarter and the Trail Blazers cruised to the easy win.
Portland held a 42-32 edge over the Clippers on the glass. Damon Stoudamire had 11 assists in the win.
The Blazers are off until Sunday when they visit Vince Carter and the Toronto Raptors. Last season the teams split a pair of games, as each squad won on its homecourt.
