Richardson, Fisher help Warriors shoot down Raptors

12.17.2005

Toronto, ON (Basketball News) - Jason Richardson went 4-of-7 from behind the arc and finished with a team-best 23 points, as the Golden State Warriors dropped Toronto, 108-98, at the Air Canada Centre.

Reserve guard Derek Fisher also drained four three-pointers en route to a 21- point night for Golden State, which has won two of three. Troy Murphy had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Baron Davis posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists.

"We needed to win this game," Murphy said. "The Raptors have a lot of good players and we knew it was not going to be an easy game."

Chris Bosh scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting for the Raptors, who have dropped two straight and four of their last five.

Charlie Villanueva poured in 18 points and collected nine boards, and Jose Calderon added 15 points and 11 assists in the loss.

Murphy went 5-of-7 from the field for 12 points to lead Golden State to a 47-44 halftime lead. The Warriors trailed by five after the first quarter, but outscored Toronto 24-16 in the second to assume the advantage.

Fisher added seven points off the bench, including a running layup in the closing seconds that made it a five-point margin. Bosh launched his inbound pass the length of the floor to Mike James, however, who banked in a short jumper at the buzzer to keep Toronto close.

Golden State used a 9-0 burst in the latter stages of the third quarter to stretch its lead into double digits. Andris Biedrins answered a Villanueva bucket with a slam to start the charge, which was capped by a Fisher free throw with 1:23 left in the third to push the Warrior advantage to 73-62.

Toronto cut the lead to seven points with 6:21 remaining in the game on a James three-pointer. Richardson, though, answered immediately with a three- ball of his own from the left corner that made it 90-80.

Fisher made five straight shots down the stretch to put the game away.

"It’s very frustrating because guys went out there and played hard," Villanueva said. "In that fourth quarter, it seemed like they didn’t miss a basket."
