Robinson hits three at buzzer to give Knicks OT win over Philly

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Nate Robinson’s three-pointer as time expired in overtime capped a big comeback and lifted the New York Knicks to a 105-102 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden.

Robinson finished with 17 points while Stephon Marbury paced the Knicks with 33 points. Rookie Channing Frye had 21 points and 11 rebounds for New York, which has won two of its last three games.

Allen Iverson recorded a game-high 40 points and his three-pointer tied the game with 6.2 seconds to go in OT. Chris Webber, whose basket late in regulation forced an extra session, had 19 points and nine boards for Philadelphia, losers of two straight and four of its last five games.

Andre Iguodala buried two foul shots with 10.8 seconds to go in regulation and the Sixers trailed by one point at 93-92. After Jamal Crawford made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe, Webber scored on an Iverson miss with 3/10ths of a second left to force overtime. Frye had a chance to win it, but missed wildly.

Marbury made the first basket of overtime for a 96-94 New York lead, and he made another shot seconds later for a four-point advantage. Crawford then nailed a fadeaway jumper and the Knicks owned a 100-94 edge with 2 1/2 minutes to go in OT.

Iverson’s three-pointer moments later, though, cut it to 100-99, but Marbury scored on a layup for a three-point margin. Kyle Korver then missed on a three-pointer, but Iverson had his back with a three that tied it with 6.2 seconds left.

Robinson, though, sank the game-winning three as time expired.

Webber made 1-of-2 foul shots late in the first quarter and the Sixers owned a 23-12 advantage. Samuel Dalembert’s dunk later in the period staked Philadelphia to a 28-16 lead, and the 76ers carried a 30-20 cushion into the second quarter.

After Iverson made it 40-25 with a basket, the Knicks got back into the game and pulled within 41-34 on back-to-back three-point plays by Marbury. Philadelphia then got some breathing room and made it 49-34 on an Iverson jumper with four minutes to go, and led by a 58-45 score at halftime.

Iverson had 17 points at halftime, while Marbury netted 16.

Korver’s three-pointer early in the third quarter extended Philadelphia’s lead to 63-47, but the Knicks went on an 18-2 run to even the score at 65 apiece.

Iverson stopped the bleeding with a basket, and Marbury answered with a three to give New York its first lead of the afternoon at 68-67. The Knicks then carried a 70-69 edge into the fourth quarter as it outscored Philly by a 25-11 margin in the third period.

Robinson’s three-pointer pushed New York’s lead to 83-74 with about five minutes remaining in the game. The Sixers scored five straight to pull within four points and Webber’s bucket later in the frame made it 85-83.

Iverson was sent to the line with 1:42 on the clock and the Sixers star made both foul shots to tie the game at 87 apiece. Malik Rose was then credited with a basket on a goaltending call against Dalembert and New York took back the lead.

Dalembert sank 1-of-2 free throws to make it a one-point contest, but Crawford connected on the other end for a 91-88 New York Lead. Webber answered with a jumper and Marbury then added a layup, giving the Knicks a 93-90 edge with 20 seconds left.

Game Notes

Rose had 13 points and Crawford contributed 11 for the Knicks...Korver had 13 points, while Iguodala added 10 for the Sixers, who made 43 percent of their shots...Korver made 3-of-7 three-pointers...New York had a 53-42 advantage on the boards...The Knicks have won five of the last six meetings with Philadelphia, which has dropped six in a row at Madison Square Garden.
