The Rockets play the first of a brief two-game homestand against the Spurs. On Sunday, Yao Ming finished with 34 points and 14 rebounds to lead Houston over the defending world champion Miami Heat, 94-72, at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Luther Head ended with 11 points, while Tracy McGrady contributed 12 points and eight assists for Houston, which improved to 3-2 on the road this season. Shane Battier also scored 11 points for Houston.
Houston is 2-0 at home this season. The Rockets are scheduled to host Ben Wallace and the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. Houston and Chicago split a pair of contests last season.
Yao leads the Rockets in scoring (27.3 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg), while McGrady has dished out a team-high 6.4 assists per game. McGrady is also averaging 17.6 points and 5.4 boards per contest.
