The Houston Chronicle reports the Rockets will also send power forward Stromile Swift back to Memphis in the deal. The newspaper reports the trade cannot become official until July 12 because of Battier’s contract status. He has five years and $32 million left on his pact.
Battier averaged 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest last season, his fifth in the NBA after being drafted out of Duke in the opening round by Memphis in 2001.
Gay was chosen as the eighth overall pick out of Connecticut. He appeared in 64 career games for the Huskies, posting a scoring average of 13.6 points.
Swift played for the Grizzlies for the first five seasons of his pro career. He averaged 8.9 points per contest last season.
