|
(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs begin a stretch of five road contests in six games this evening, when they tangle with the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena.
San Antonio is off to a solid 4-1 start after topping Shaquille O’Neal and the Miami Heat, 93-84, on Friday night. Manu Ginobili had 29 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the winning effort for the Spurs.
Tim Duncan added 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Spurs, who have won two straight contests. In the process, Spurs head coach Greg Popovich became the fastest NBA coach ever to reach 400 victories.
Miami began the fourth quarter with a 16-5 spurt to pull within 77-76 with 4:40 remaining. But the Spurs scored eight straight points, including six from Ginobili, to extend San Antonio’s lead to 85-76. San Antonio was able to keep Miami at an arm’s length the rest of the game.
The Spurs posted 24 points off 22 Miami turnovers, while committing just nine of their own miscues.
San Antonio has split a pair of road contests this year, as its only loss of the season came in Seattle on Nov. 7.
Atlanta is one of just four squads to own a series advantage against San Antonio, leading 34-30. These teams have split the last four meetings in this series, including a pair of games last year. The home team has won each of the past four contests.
This will be a reunion of the Barry brothers, as Jon plays for Atlanta and Brent toils for San Antonio.
