(Basketball News) - The Sonics’ losing ways continued Wednesday night, as they fell 90-83 to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.
Vitaly Potapenko paced Seattle with 18 points and nine boards. Rashard Lewis netted 17 points and Ray Allen contributed 13 points and 11 assists for the Sonics, who have dropped three in a row after a seven-game winning streak.
After Seattle began the third quarter with a 10-4 run to take a two-point advantage, Minnesota countered with a 17-6 burst to move back in front 61-52 with 3:15 left in the period. The Sonics got no closer than five points down the stretch.
The Sonics lost valuable reserve Vladimir Radmanovic to a sprained right ankle in the second quarter. It is unknown when Radmanovic will return to the court.
Seattle has essentially been eliminated from postseason contention, as it trails eighth place Utah by five games with seven to play. The Sonics will get a stiff challenge Friday night, when they face the red hot Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.
