|
(Basketball News) - All-Star Ray Allen poured in a team-high 31 points as the Seattle SuperSonics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 103-86, on Wednesday at Gund Arena. Allen ended 11-of-22 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Rashard Lewis finished with 20 points, while Vladimir Radmanovic came off the bench to contribute 19 points and seven rebounds for the SuperSonics, who have won two in a row and five of their last six games.
Trailing 54-45 at the half, Cleveland fought back in the third courtesy of a 16-9 run to open the stanza, cutting the deficit to two points. Drew Gooden’s inside bucket capped the spurt as the Cavs drew within a 63-61 score at the 7:00 mark of the frame. Moments later, Jeff McInnis’ jumper would even up the contest at 67-67, but Seattle would then take control of the game by closing the frame on a 11-2 run to take a 78-69 lead into the fourth.
The SuperSonics cushion would grow to 16, 98-82, on two free throws by Allen with 3:42 remaining in the contest. Cleveland never recovered from that point on.
Seattle has won eight of its last 10 road games and improved to 20-8 as the visitor this season.
Allen has scored 25 or more points in four of Seattle’s six games since the All-Star break. He is averaging 25.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in that span. The Connecticut product leads the SuperSonics in scoring at 24.1 points per game.
The SuperSonics return home for a four-game homestand. Seattle will host the Detroit Pistons on Friday in the opener of the stand. The teams will play once more this season, as the Sonics will visit the Pistons on March 16th at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Seattle will also play the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, the Houton Rockets on March 8th and the Chicago Bulls on March 11th during the homestand.
