Sixers sign draft picks

07.9.2006

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers agreed to terms with their two top draft picks, forwards Rodney Carney and Bobby Jones, on Sunday.

Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

The Sixers acquired the rights to Carney (the 16th overall selection), a 2007 second round draft pick and cash considerations on draft night from Chicago for the draft rights to Thabo Sefolosha (No. 13 overall).

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound forward averaged 17.2 points per game as a senior at the University of Memphis and was considered to be one of college basketball’s best on-ball defenders.

Philadelphia also inked Bobby Jones, the 37th overall pick. The Sixers acquired the rights to Jones from Minnesota in exchange for a second round pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and cash considerations.

Jones, a 6-foot-7, 211-pound forward from University of Washington, is also considered to be a defensive stalwart. He played four seasons with the Huskies and averaged 9.8 points in 125 career games.
