The Sixers acquired the rights to Carney (the 16th overall selection), a 2007 second round draft pick and cash considerations on draft night from Chicago for the draft rights to Thabo Sefolosha (No. 13 overall).
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound forward averaged 17.2 points per game as a senior at the University of Memphis and was considered to be one of college basketball’s best on-ball defenders.
Philadelphia also inked Bobby Jones, the 37th overall pick. The Sixers acquired the rights to Jones from Minnesota in exchange for a second round pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and cash considerations.
Jones, a 6-foot-7, 211-pound forward from University of Washington, is also considered to be a defensive stalwart. He played four seasons with the Huskies and averaged 9.8 points in 125 career games.
