Sonics stop off at MSG

01.8.2006

(Basketball News) - The Seattle SuperSonics play the fourth of a five-game road trip when they visit the New York Knicks this afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

This is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. On December 6th, Jamal Crawford poured in 19 of his season-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to lead New York to a 104-101 come-from-behind victory over Seattle at KeyArena.

Seattle has won four of the last six meetings in this series, while the Knicks have captured six of the last 10 contests. The Sonics have lost eight of their last 13 at New York.

The SuperSonics are 1-2 on the current swing. On Friday, Tayshaun Prince had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Chauncey Billups also scored 21 points and dished out seven assists, as the Detroit Pistons downed Seattle, 97-85, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Rashard Lewis poured in a game-high 27 points and added eight rebounds in the loss to Detroit for the SuperSonics, who have dropped three of their last four games overall and fell for the first time under new head coach Bob Hill, who took over the team on Tuesday when Seattle fired Bob Weiss.

On the injury front for the Sonics, center Vitaly Potapenko (back) is doubtful for today’s contest.

Seattle is 6-9 on the road this season.

New York attempts to finish its current three-game homestand with a perfect 3-0 record. Channing Frye scored a career-high tying 30 points to lead the Knicks over the Washington Wizards, 113-92, at Madison Square Garden. Frye, who sparked a 26-6 run that bridged the final two quarters, hit 11-of-13 shots off the bench as New York’s reserves outscored Washington’s 56-21.

Stephon Marbury added 16 points and 11 assists in the win over Washington for the Knicks, who have won consecutive games for just the second time this season. New York outlasted Phoenix in three overtimes, 140-133, on Monday at MSG.

The Knicks are 6-8 at home this season. They have won three of their last four at MSG.
