Spurs continue road trip in Beantown

11.11.2005

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs try to continue their mastery of the Boston Celtics this evening when they continue their five-game road trip at TD Banknorth Garden.

San Antonio has defeated the Celtics 15 straight times since falling to them back on January 8, 1997. The Spurs, who have won 21 of the last 22 meetings, have also won seven in a row and 10 of their last 11 in Beantown.

The Spurs improved to 4-1 overall on Wednesday, as Tim Duncan led all scorers with 29 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds to lead San Antonio past the Charlotte Bobcats, 94-86.

Tony Parker dropped in 23 points to go with six assists and five rebounds for the Spurs, who have won two straight on the heels of their only loss of the season, to Dallas.

Nick Van Exel added 12 points in the victory, while Manu Ginobili registered eight points and five assists. The Spurs shot 49 percent from the floor.

On the injury front Michael Finley (groin) and Brent Barry (back spasms) both missed the game and could sit out tonight’s tilt.

The Spurs, who will close their trek in Washington on Saturday, are 2-1 away from home this season.

Boston, meanwhile, comes into tonight’s affair on a winning note as well after Ricky Davis hit the winning jumper from just beyond the foul line at the buzzer to lift the Celtics past the Memphis Grizzlies, 99-98.

Davis finished with 18 points, while Paul Pierce topped the Celtics with 29 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and fed Davis for the winning basket.

It marked the second winning shot for Davis against the Grizzlies in the last calendar year. He buried a 14-foot jumper with just 3.9 seconds left to give Boston a 90-88 home win on February 16.

Mark Blount had 17 points and Raef LaFrentz added 10 points for Boston, which overcame an 18-point deficit and snapped a two-game skid.

The Celtics, who will conclude a three-game homestand against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, are 2-1 in their arena this season.
