Spurs trying to keep up with Dallas

01.9.2007

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs own a solid 24-11 record, but trail the defending Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks (27-8) by three games for the top spot in the Southwest Division.

San Antonio is 1-2 against the Mavericks this season. Dallas is scheduled to host the Spurs on April 15th at American Airlines Center in the final meeting of the regular season between the clubs.

All-Star forward Tim Duncan leads the Spurs in scoring (20.1 ppg) and rebounding (10.1 rpg), while fellow All-Star and starting point guard Tony Parker, who is second on the team in scoring (19.7 ppg), has dished out a team-best 5.9 assists per game.

On Tuesday, the Portland Trail Blazers play the first of a short two-game road trip when they visit the Spurs at the AT&T Center. It is the second meeting of the season between the squads. On November 20th, Manu Ginobili scored 18 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as San Antonio beat Portland, 107-98, at the Rose Garden. Portland has lost six straight and nine of its last 10 at San Antonio. The Spurs have won six in a row in the series.

San Antonio tries to make it two straight wins against Portland. Manu Ginobili poured in a game-high 34 points and added five steals as the Spurs knocked off the Memphis Grizzlies, 110-96, on Sunday at the FedExForum.

Robert Horry added 18 points off the bench in the win over Memphis for the Spurs, who snapped a three-game skid. Michael Finley ended with 12 points while Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen both scored 10 in the victory.

On the injury front for San Antonio, Parker (strained right hip) is questionable for Tuesday’s contest. He missed his first game of the season against Memphis.

The Spurs are 12-6 at home this season. They will visit Allen Iverson and the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday at the Pepsi Center. San Antonio has lost two of its last three at Denver.

San Antonio is 18-3 when it scores 100 or more points this season.
