03.28.2006

(Basketball News) - The red-hot Memphis Grizzlies attempt to extend their season-best winning streak to eight games tonight, as they welcome the Seattle SuperSonics to the FedExForum.

A victory for the Grizzlies would match their franchise-best winning streak. They won eight in a row from January 11-25, 2004.

Memphis is No. 6 in the Western Conference playoff race and is just one-half game behind the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers.

All-Star Pau Gasol scored 33 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, as Memphis held off thee Charlotte Bobcats, 102-95, on Saturday in a game delayed by 90 minutes due to a small fire in the FedExForum, About 12,000 fans had to be evacuated before the game due to a fire in an elevator shaft. Order was eventually restored and the game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m. (et), began 90 minutes late.

Mike Miller poured in 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the victory over Charlotte for the Grizzlies, who have won 15 of their last 21 games overall.

The Grizzlies are an impressive 25-10 at home this season. They have won six in a row as the host.

Seattle will try and make it two wins in a row when they open a brief two-game road trip. On Sunday, Ray Allen scored 33 points, and drilled the go-ahead three-pointer with 5.4 seconds left to boost the SuperSonics to a 106-102 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at KeyArena.

Allen ended 13-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point range, for the SuperSonics, who have won five of their last eight games overall. Luke Ridnour tallied 19 points and Rashard Lewis netted 16 for Seattle.

The Sonics are 10-24 as the visitor this season. They are scheduled to visit the Houston Rockets on Wednesday at the Toyota Center.
