Struggling Celtics finish road trip in Portland

01.1.2007

(Basketball News) - The slumping Boston Celtics wrap up a five-game road trip when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at the Rose Garden.

Boston has lost a season-worst six straight games. On Sunday, Chris Wilcox scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Seattle SuperSonics over the Celtics, 101-95, at KeyArena.

Tony Allen had 23 points and Al Jefferson registered 21 points and 10 boards in the loss to Seattle for the Celtics, who have dropped 11 of their last 16 games overall. Gerald Green had 18 points for Boston, which continues to play without injured forward Paul Pierce.

Pierce is sidelined with a stress reaction in his left foot and has missed five straight games. The Kansas product leads the Celtics in scoring (26.6 ppg) and assists (4.3 apg).

The Celtics are 6-9 on the road this season. They return home to host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday at TD Banknorth Garden.

Portland attempts to halt a two-game losing streak. Mehmet Okur scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Utah Jazz beat the Trail Blazers, 96-86, on Saturday at EnergySolutions Arena.

Zach Randolph finished with 34 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to the Jazz for Portland, which has dropped four of its last five games overall. Rookie Brandon Roy netted 17 in defeat.

The Trail Blazers are 7-8 at home this season. They will host the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

This is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. On November 17th, Pierce poured in a game-high 29 points and Delonte West scored 13 of his 17 points in a dominating fourth quarter by Boston, which cruised past Portland, 118-90, at TD Banknorth Garden.

Boston has won three straight and four of the last five contests in this series. The Celtics have won four of their last six at Portland.
