Trial Blazers keep Knicks out of win column

Randolph shot 11-of-19 from the floor and also pulled down 12 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who have now won six straight over the Knicks at home. Ruben Patterson added 17 points off the bench in the win.

Jamal Crawford netted 15 points and Eddy Curry added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Knicks, who again failed to record their first win under new head coach Larry Brown, despite having a 10-point lead after halftime.

Stephon Marbury scored 13 points in the loss as Portland outscored New York 56-34 in the second half. The Knicks are now winless in four games so far this season.

Down 49-39, the Trail Blazers opened up the third stanza on a 10-0 run, capped by Sebastian Telfair’s layup, to tie the game at 49-49. The two teams stayed close and New York held a 57-56 lead before Portland netted six straight for a 62-57 advantage.

Miles’ jumper with 1:14 left in the third extended Portland to 64-61 and Crawford capped the scoring in the frame with a free throw to make it a 64-62 game after three.

Patterson’s alley-oop from Telfair gave the Trail Blazers a 71-65 lead 2 1/2 minutes into the fourth and Patterson’s free throw kept Portland up six, 77-71 with 7:17 remaining in the fourth. The free throw also sparked an 11-1 Blazer run that extended the home team’s lead to 87-72, as Portland pulled away en route to the win.

The Trail Blazers outscored New York 48-32 in the paint while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor. The Knicks only shot 39.4 percent and committed 20 turnovers in the game.

The Knicks took control early in the first as New York never trailed in the frame after Marbury’s three-pointer staked the Knicks to a 10-8 lead with 6:35 left in the opening quarter. Miles’ basket would then tie the contest at 10, but New York would go on a 13-6 spurt to take a 23-16 lead with 1:27 left in the stanza.

The Knicks would carry a 25-20 advantage into the second and New York later used an 8-2 run to make it a 35-26 game with 7:11 left in the second. Randolph’s free throw would pull Portland to within 41-35 with just under three minutes left in the first half, but Malik Rose’s jumper with one second left sent New York into the half with a 49-39 lead.
