New Jersey has won a season-high 10 games in a row. It is the Nets’ longest winning streak since a 14-game run from January 25 to February 24, 2004.
The Nets play the second of a four-game road trip. All-Star Vince Carter scored 42 points against his former team, and buried a three-pointer with 0.1 seconds left, as the Nets extended their winning streak on Sunday with a 105-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre. Carter, who scored 24 in the final quarter, also grabbed 10 rebounds and shot 18-of-35 from the field.
Jason Kidd added 22 points, six rebounds and 15 assists in the win over Toronto for the Nets. New Jersey played most of the game without forward Richard Jefferson, who logged just two-plus minutes because of back spasms.
Jefferson is probable for tonight’s game.
New Jersey is 9-6 on the road this season. The Nets will visit Memphis and Dallas on the current swing.
San Antonio will try and rebound from a tough loss. On Saturday, reigning MVP Steve Nash ended with 22 points and 10 assists to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 91-86 victory over the Spurs at the US Airways Center.
Tim Duncan finished with 19 points and 12 boards and Manu Ginobili netted 19 in the loss to Phoenix for the Spurs, who had a five-game winning streak halted. Tony Parker scored 18 points and veteran Robert Horry chipped in 15 points and a pulled down season-high 11 rebounds in defeat.
The Spurs are an impressive 16-1 as the host this season, and have won 11 straight at the SBC Center. San Antonio’s last loss at home was to the Chicago Bulls on November 25th.
This is the first of two meetings this season between the clubs. The Nets are scheduled to host San Antonio on February 10th at Continental Airlines Arena.
The Spurs have won five straight after losing the last three meetings in this series. New Jersey has lost three straight and six of its last seven at San Antonio.
