New Jack City: Blazers exercise options on Jack, Webster

10.30.2006

Portland, OR (Basketball News) - The Portland Trail Blazers exercised third-year options on the contracts of guards Jarrett Jack and Martell Webster on Monday.

Jack played in a team-high 79 games in his rookie season last year, averaging 6.7 points, two rebounds and 2.8 assists.

The 23-year-old Jack, a product of Georgia Tech, was originally selected with the 22nd overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in last year’s NBA Draft. He was then traded to Portland for the rights to first-round pick Linas Kleiza and second-rounder Ricky Sanchez.

In three seasons at Georgia Tech, Jack averaged 12.5 points and 5.4 assists per game. He also became only the sixth player in school history to reach both 1,000 points and 500 assists.

Webster, the sixth pick of the 2005 draft, appeared in 61 games last season, averaging 6.6 points and 2.1 rebounds.
