No time to relax for Spurs

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs (30-13) are in second place and trail the defending Western Conference champion and first place Dallas Mavericks by five games in the Southwest Division.

San Antonio is 18-3 when it scores 100 or more points this season. The Spurs are 1-5 when their opponent reaches the century mark.

All-Stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker are leading the Spurs once again. Duncan leads the squad in scoring (19.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.5 rpg), while Parker, who is second on the team in scoring at 19.0 points per game, has dished out a club-high 5.6 assists per contest.

Southwest Division rivals battle on Wednesday, as the Spurs welcome the Houston Rockets to the AT&T Center. It is the second of four meetings between the squads this season. The teams split the previous two contests, as both teams picked up a win on the road. Houston is scheduled to host the Spurs on March 3rd at the Toyota Center.

Houston has lost 17 of its last 18 at San Antonio.

San Antonio enters Wednesday’s contest on a three-game winning streak. Duncan scored 21 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Spurs over the Boston Celtics, 93-89, on Monday at TD Banknorth Garden.

Duncan ended 7-of-17 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line, while Parker and Manu Ginobili both contributed 15 points for the Spurs, who defeated Boston for the 18th straight time. The last time the Celtics beat San Antonio was on January 8, 1997.

The Spurs are 15-7 at home this season. They will host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. San Antonio is 2-0 against the Grizzlies this season, as it picked up a win at home and on the road versus Memphis.
