Pacers deal Sixers 12th straight loss

12.20.2006

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Jermaine O’Neal netted 34 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Indiana downed the reeling Philadelphia 76ers, 101-93, at the Wachovia Center.

The Sixers began the post-Allen Iverson era in the game after trading the enigmatic guard and forward Ivan McFarlin to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday in exchange for guard Andre Miller, forward Joe Smith and a pair of 2007 first- round draft picks.

Miller and Smith were stuck in a blizzard that hit the Rocky Mountains and were not available to the team.

Without their new duo, the Sixers continued to pile up the losses, dropping their 12th contest in a row — the franchise’s largest losing streak since a 13-game skid in the 1996-97 season.

Stephen Jackson added 25 points for the Pacers, who have won three of their past four games. Danny Granger chipped in with 15 points.

Andre Iguodala paced the hapless Sixers with 20 points and seven assists, but couldn’t stop Jackson on the defensive end down the stretch when things were tight.

Kyle Korver added 20 points off the bench while Willie Green and Samuel Dalembert each had 16 for Philadelphia. Dalembert also had 13 rebounds before fouling out.

After falling behind early in the fourth quarter, the Sixers battled back and managed to even things at 84 when Korver drained an off-balanced jumper from the right corner with 4:13 remaining.

Jackson took over from there. The swingman abused Iguodala on the blocks and scored six straight points for the Pacers as Indiana forged ahead 92-87 with 1:18 left.

The Sixers couldn’t recover from there as Indiana escaped with the victory.

The Sixers took a slim 27-24 lead after the opening 12 minutes thanks to Dalembert, who finished 4-of-4 from the floor in the quarter.

Philadelphia then built its lead to 10, 47-37, late in the first half, but the Pacers closed the frame with a 10-1 run to tighten things. Jackson’s long jumper at the buzzer made it 48-47 heading to the locker room.

Indiana then edged ahead through three quarters, 72-68.

Game Notes

Miller and Smith are expected to join the Sixers on Friday when the team visits Boston...The Pacers defeated Philadelphia on November 7 this season by a 97-86 score at Conseco Fieldhouse and have won four straight against Philly...Sixers forward Chris Webber missed his third straight game because of a sprained right ankle.
