Pacers rally to beat Bucks

11.19.2006

Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Jermaine O’Neal scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Indiana roared back to edge Milwaukee, 102-100, in the first of a home-and-home set at the Bradley Center.

Stephen Jackson added 17 points off the bench for the Pacers, who snapped a three-game skid. Jamaal Tinsley chipped in with 15 points and seven assists for Indiana.

"The guys really hung in there," said Indiana coach Rick Carlisle. "It was a tough night, a tough start."

Michael Redd tallied 21 points for the struggling Bucks, who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Maurice Williams just missed a triple-double with 19 points, nine boards and 11 assists, while Andrew Bogut had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Milwaukee.

"I think we played well in the first half and we played alright in the second half," said Williams. "They just fought it out."

Down by 15 points at intermission, Indiana put together a solid third quarter to get back in the game. The Pacers outscored Milwaukee, 32-21, in the stanza and were down just four, 71-67, heading to the final frame.

Indiana kept chipping away and forged in front during the fourth quarter. With the game deadlocked at 86, the Pacers took control with a 10-4 burst. Danny Granger capped the mini-run with a jumper to put Indiana up by six, 96-90, with just 2:28 left.

Instead of folding, the Bucks had one last gasp in them and drew within a point, 101-100, with 4.1 ticks left when Williams drained a pair from the line.

After a timeout, Milwaukee quickly fouled Darrell Armstrong with the clock showing 2.9. The veteran guard was able to sink just the front-end from the charity stripe to make it 102-100 game with 2.2 seconds remaining.

The Bucks used another timeout to advance to midcourt and got the ball to rookie Ersan Ilyasova who made a key mistake. The rookie took a dribble but instead of getting a shot up at the basket, he kicked the ball out to Bogut.

Time expired before the former number one pick could get a shot off and the Pacers escaped with the victory.

Milwaukee raced out to a 27-15 lead in the opening 12 minutes thanks to a stifling defense. The Bucks held the Pacers to just 20 percent shooting in the first quarter.

Milwaukee then extended its advantage to 15, 50-35, at the break.

Game Notes

The teams will play again on Tuesday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis... The Bucks are just 1-3 at home this season...The Pacers have won five of the last seven meetings in the series...Indiana snapped a two-game skid at the Bradley Center.
