(Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Detroit Pistons, 99-81, on Saturday at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Allen Iverson netted 31 points for the 76ers, who lost their second in a row after Wednesday’s season-opening win over Boston. Kenny Thomas pulled down 14 rebounds in defeat.
After Philadelphia cut the lead to five early in the third quarter, Rasheed Wallace scored the next seven points to help Detroit begin to pull away. The 6’11" center was fouled after sticking back Ben Wallace’s miss and converted the three-point play to give the Pistons a 57-48 cushion, then drained a shot from beyond the arc on Detroit’s next trip down the court for a 13-point margin with 9:25 left in the period.
A three-pointer by rookie Carlos Delfino gave Detroit a commanding 83-67 lead after three quarters of play. The Sixers never got within single digits until Andre Iguodala’s trey in the final minute accounted for the final margin.
Philadelphia center Samuel Dalembert missed Saturday’s contest due to a sore hamstring, while teammate Kedrick Brown did not make the trip because of flu- like symptoms.
Iverson has averaged 28.7 points and 6.7 assists in Philadelphia’s first three games of the season.
The Sixers are off until Tuesday when they visit New York. Last season, Philadelphia dropped three of its four contests with the Knicks.
