Wallace signed a four-year, $60 million dollar contract with Chicago late last week.
The Pistons countered by signing Mohammed, who averaged 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 80 regular season games with the San Antonio Spurs last season. Mohammed donated 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds during eight postseason contests in 2006, but showed Detroit his mettle firsthand during the 2004 NBA Finals, starting at center and scoring in double figures six times during that postseason.
"We are pleased to add Nazr Mohammed to our roster," said president of basketball operations Joe Dumars. "Nazr is a proven veteran in this league and can help provide stability at the center position. His defensive presence and rebounding will help solidify our front line while his experience and professionalism will provide added value in our locker room."
Mohammed has played with Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York and San Antonio during his NBA career.
The club also received support for its backcourt, inking guard Flip Murray to a multi-year contract. Murray averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 assists and two rebounds in 76 contests with Seattle and Cleveland last season.
"We are excited to add a player like Flip Murray to our backcourt," said Dumars. "He has shown the ability to score the basketball and we feel like he will add a key dimension to the current group of guards that we have on the roster."
Murray has averaged 10.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists with Milwaukee, Seattle and Cleveland.
