Randolph having solid year for Blazers

01.17.2007

(Basketball News) - Portland’s starting power forward Zach Randolph is having an excellent season for the Trail Blazers. The Michigan State product leads the team in scoring (23.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg).

Randolph, who should receive serious consideration for a spot on the Western Conference All-Star team, has scored in double-digits in 36 games and has collected 21 double-doubles. He is shooting 47 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the foul line.

The Cleveland Cavaliers play the fifth of a season-long seven-game road trip when they visit the Trail Blazers on Wednesday at the Rose Garden. It is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs this season. On November 15th, James scored 32 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out seven assists to lead the Cavaliers over the Trail Blazers, 100-87, at Quicken Loans Arena.

Cleveland has lost six of seven and eight of its last 10 at Portland. The Cavaliers have won two in a row and five of the last six contests in the series.

Portland tries to get back on the winning track against the Cavaliers, as it wraps up a three-game homestand. Allen Iverson posted 32 points and nine assists to lead the Nuggets over the Trail Blazers, 109-93, on Sunday at the Rose Garden.

Sergio Rodriguez scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss to Denver for the Trail Blazers, who played without guard Jarrett Jack because of a concussion suffered in a car accident last Friday morning while pulling into the team’s practice facility. Juan Dixon scored 15 points, while Martell Webster netted 12 in defeat.

Jack, who is averaging 12.5 points and a team-high 5.6 assists in 37 games this season, is questionable for Wednesday’s contest.

The Trail Blazers are 8-12 at home this season. They will visit the high- powered Phoenix Suns on Friday at the US Airways Center. Portland is 0-2 against the Suns this season. The Trail Blazers have lost five straight at Phoenix.

Portland owns a 15-24 record and sits in fourth place in the Northwest Division, just one-half game ahead of the last place Seattle SuperSonics.
