Report: Mavs, Johnson agree to new deal 10.12.2006

The Dallas Morning News reported that the extension will replace Johnson’s current deal that paid him $2.5 million in 2005-06, his first full campaign leading the Mavericks.
Owner Mark Cuban and Johnson began talking about a new contract after losing to Miami in the 2006 NBA Finals. The new deal keeps Johnson in the Lone Star State through the 2010-2011 season.
Johnson took over for Don Nelson with 18 games remaining in the 2004-2005 season and the team finished 16-2. The Mavericks reached the second round of the playoffs that year before falling to Phoenix.
"The Little General", who guided the Mavs to a franchise-best 60-22 record and their first NBA Finals appearance last season, is the fastest coach to reach the 50-win plateau (62 games).
