Report: Wallace named GM of Grizzlies 06.18.2007
|
According to a report in the Memphis Commercial Appeal, the Grizzlies could make the announcement official as early as Monday.
Wallace has spent the last seven seasons as general manager of the Boston Celtics. With the Grizzlies, he is expected to handle the day-to-day operations of the team, a role which belonged to outgoing director of basketball operations Jerry West.
West, who has been with the franchise since 2002, announced in April that he was stepping down from his post after the season, and the move will become official on July 1 when his contract expires.
According to the newspaper, West is likely to remain with the organization as a consultant.
Before joining Boston, Wallace was the director of player personnel for the Miami Heat.
Wallace’s hiring would be the second major offseason move for Memphis, which hired Marc Iavaroni as its new head coach on May 31.
