Riley takes leave from Heat

Miami, FL (Basketball News) - Miami Heat head coach Pat Riley has taken a leave of absence from the team, effective immediately.

Riley’s move is health related and he hopes to return. He is suffering from knee pain and a hip condition. Assistant Ron Rothstein is expected to take over on the bench.

The Heat will hold a mid-afternoon press conference to clarify the announcement.

The Heat are just 13-17 this season and in third place in the Southeast Division. Miami won the NBA title a season ago, but is currently without stars Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal. Both are suffering from injuries.
