Riley tries to guide Heat to third win in a row at Milwaukee

12.14.2005

(Basketball News) - The Milwaukee Bucks try to extend their winning streak to a season-best four games tonight, as they welcome Pat Riley and the Miami Heat to the Bradley Center.

This is the second meeting of the season between the clubs. On November 5th, Bobby Simmons scored 23 points, including a rim-shattering slam over Alonzo Mourning to put a stamp on a fourth-quarter comeback, as the Bucks defeated Miami, 105-100, at the Bradley Center. Shaquille O’Neal did not play in the game because of an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for 18 games.

Miami has won nine of 15 and 10 of the last 17 meetings. The Heat have lost four of their last six contests at the Bradley Center. These two teams have split the last eight meetings at Milwaukee.

The Heat play their second game under Riley, who took over as the team’s head coach on Monday when Stan Van Gundy resigned. Miami plays the second of a four-game road trip this evening.

On Tuesday, Shaquille O’Neal scored 30 points in his second game back from an ankle injury, and Riley picked up a win in his first contest as a head coach since 2003, as Miami defeated the Chicago Bulls, 100-97, at the United Center.

O’Neal, who sprained his right ankle during the second game of the season, had fouled out in his first contest back, but returned to his dominant self against the Bulls. The All-Star center, who played 28 minutes, finished 12- of-21 from the floor and also grabbed seven rebounds.

Dwyane Wade had 14 points and 11 assists, while Antoine Walker also scored 14 in the win over Chicago for the Heat, who have won two straight following a four-game losing streak.

Miami is 4-7 on the road this season. The Heat will visit Philadelphia on Friday and Cleveland on Saturday in the finale of the swing.

On Monday, Michael Redd scored 31 points and made all five of his three-point attempts, as the Milwaukee Bucks used sharp shooting to rout the New York Knicks, 112-92, at Madison Square Garden.

Redd finished 9-of-17 from the field and missed just one of his nine free throw attempts. Dan Gadzuric added a season-high 18 points and Maurice Williams tallied 15 points for Milwaukee, which connected on 53.8 percent of its shots, including 12-of-19 from three-point range.

Jamaal Magloire contributed 11 points and Toni Kukoc had 10 for the Bucks, who have won six of their last seven games overall.

Milwaukee is 6-3 as the visitor.
