Thomas was in uniform for Friday’s game against Orlando and came off the bench to score 20 points in the Suns’ 123-118 win over the Magic. He finished 5-of-8 from behind the arc.
"It’s unusual to be able to add a talent like Tim Thomas this late in the season," Suns head coach Mike DAntoni said. "We are looking forward to working with Tim. His length and athleticism will be a nice fit for our team."
Thomas, who was waived by Chicago on Wednesday, played in only three games with the Bulls this season after being acquired by the team from the New York Knicks in the deal that landed center Eddy Curry in New York.
Thomas complained about his role in Chicago and was sent home by the franchise in October.
Now in his ninth season, the Villanova product holds career averages of 11.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 577 games with Philadelphia, Milwaukee, New York and Chicago.
