=== Rockets re-sign Mutombo to a deal ===

Houston, TX (Basketball News) - The Houston Rockets announced they have re- signed center Dikembe Mutombo to a multi-year contract on Friday. As per club policy, terms were not disclosed.

The 38-year-old Mutombo posted 4.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.26 blocks per game last season.

"It’s been a great offseason and we’ve added a lot of athleticism," said Rockets vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsay. "But a big part of who we are last year, we wanted to retain that. Dikembe was a big part of that. His shot-blocking, defensive presence, and unbelievable rebounding were a great part of our club.

The 7-foot-2, 261-pound center has averaged 11.1 points and 11.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in his career. He is a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Mutombo, a 13-year NBA veteran, has played for Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York.

"We’re going for a ring this year," said Mutombo. "That’s our goal and that’s something in all of our minds right now, is to come into training camp and work very hard to find the opportunity to win the championship.

The Rockets obtained Mutombo from the Chicago Bulls last season in exchange for guards Adrian Griffin, Eric Piatkowski and Mike Wilks.
