Rockets sign Oakley to 10-day deal 03.18.2004

Houston, TX (Basketball News) - The Houston Rockets Thursday signed 18-year veteran Charles Oakley to a 10-day contract. Oakley will take the roster spot of forward Kelvin Cato, who was placed on the injured list with a left shoulder sprain.
Oakley, who ranks 17th on the NBA’s all-time rebounding list with 12,200, has not played in a game this season after spending the 2002-03 campaign with Washington. The 40-year-old averaged 1.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 42 games for the Wizards last season.
In 1,275 career games with Chicago, New York, Toronto and the Wizards, Oakley has averaged 9.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.06 steals.
Cato has started 64 of 65 games this season and is averaging 6.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.37 blocks.
